My girlfriend has a Cell C Blackberry contract. She was given an old iphone 4S by her brother in mid March, and she excitedly put her BB sim into the iPhone (who wouldnt be excited to make that leap?!).
She is not tech-minded at all and she was under the impression that her BB contract with Cell C entitled her to +-2.5gb data usage per month (Her contract costs normally run to about R500 pm. So she very carefully monitored her data usage and was judicious in her use of apps etc.
Anyway, debit order went off yesterday for R3600! She got a huge shock and called the call center in a panic. It seems she has been billed by Cell C for all data usage throught the internet APN (not BIS) at R2.00 per mb.
And that was just for half of March! Now we are terrified for the April bill, which we are very scared will be more like double that.
We don't know our rights here, if any at all. She wasn't aware that the rate would change, and Cell C didn't notify her when she put the sim in the iphone. This rate change was probably contained in the small print of the contract but we don't have a copy and that would be cold comfort in any event. Right now we are just super shocked--is there anything we can do at all? Does the CPA help us out? Is there any section of Cell C that looks favourably on this kind of issue? Really worried about how we are going to make ends meet now.
